Spectacular weaving in Sembalun Lawang, 5 days
A unique trip to this village at the feet of Indonesia’s second highest volcano the Rinjani.
For many generations young girls learned the basic weaving skills from their mother. They use traditional wooden hand looms. The women from Sembalun Lawang utilise a variety of ancient motifs and are masters of colour. These women also produce a range of comtempory modern designs. The weavings from Sembalun Lawang have even been showcased in fashion shows in Java.
Are you interested in learning these techniques and designing your own project?
Guided by enthusiastic, patient and encouraging weavers you can make a splendid scarf to take home within four days.
