West Papua or Irian Jaya is the western half of the island of New Guinea. It was only 'acquired' by the Indonesians after the Dutch surrendered control in the 1960s. Over three times larger than Java and Bali combined, Irian Jaya's 421,981 sq km is mainly impenetrable jungle where traditional tribes still manage to survive harsh conditions and modern intrusions. The magnificent Baliem Valley offers unique culture and trekking opportunities and is by far the major tourist attraction. Pulau Biak is popular for its stunning beaches. Day 1 Flight from Jakarta to Jayapura
Evening-flight to Jayapura.

Day 2 Jayapura and excursion to Lake Sentani
Pick-up after night flight to Jayapura. Boat tour on Lake Sentani.

Day 3 Wamena
Spectacular morning-flight to Baliem Valley. Day off to see Wamena.

Day 3 - 9 Trekking Southern Baliem Valley
Start of an astonishing trek through the Baliem Valley: a once in a lifetime experience. Accompanied by a local guide, porters and cooks you will walk through beautiful scenery and stay at local villages. One day we will organize a pig eating festival.

Day 10 Wamena, free program
Possibility to see salt spring and mummy.

Day 11 Depapre beach
Flight back to Sentani. Snorkeling and relaxing on a secluded beach.

Day 12 Jayapura, Biak
Flight towards Biak Island. Free time

Day 13 Biak
Jungle tour by canoe to a waterfall.

Day 14 Biak - Jakarta / Denpasar
Flight back to Jakarta or Denpasar.
